MenMakers TV was developed as a tool to help boys clearly understand their responsibilities as men.
We explore and explain some of the expectations that women and children may have of the men in their lives while detailing the challenges of being a mature man these days in the village of Detroit.
We recognize the lack of proper guidance for so many boys in our communities, especially while they’re transitioning from co-dependent teen boys, into self-sufficient young men.
MenMakers of Detroit will do our part in connecting with boys who are not getting the right type of guidance from good role models, male family members and big homies in the community. We will be part of the solution to make this a reality.
Because MenMakers of Detroit understands that their sons will be the grown men of our community tomorrow. That means they’ll be our neighbors, maybe our daughters’ boyfriends, and surely the future role models of the next generations…
So, it’s important that their sons, brothers, and nephews know what it means to be a Real (GOOD) Man.
Indeed, it’ll be in our best interest (our duty) to help our sisters raise their sons to ultimately become Real Men.
Fathers are encouraged to view our channels with their teenage daughters, especially at the time that they are starting to date and are curious of what to look for in a young man (or boy).
Fathers will be able to use MMTV to share information about young men with their baby-girls in a simplistic way. Ideally, this will make uncomfortable situations and conversations more bearable manageable and engaging.
We truly believe MMTV will help give our community some male rebuilding direction!
We’ve done some research and asked many people in Detroit what their definition of a REAL MAN is. We’ve taken that information and analyzed the city’s neighborhoods, cultures, religions, music, economics, values, fears, family structures (and the lack-thereof), and other influences concerning our people.
Now we are combining all that information and presenting it in a three-step visual aid (channels) that simplifies the responsibilities of manhood.
Because it’s Real talk about REAL MEN!
We use the word REAL to classify the organic nature of a man; one who will do the best that he can, to align his designed position as a man with his disciplines in order to achieve a common standard that he’ll offer to his family and community; that’s really “GOOD”.
To use Real Estate as a metaphor; a REAL MAN’s influence is unmovable in his family and community.
When he keeps it REAL with himself in his position as a man, he knows he is depended on and expected to play a role in each of his family members’ lives – as a son, father, husband, uncle, brother; and that’s really “GOOD” too.
MMTV will passionately pursue taking on the much-needed challenge of being MenMakers.
